Update on the Coronavirus: India registered 89,129 cases in a single day.

In the last 24 hours, India recorded 89,129 new COVID-19 cases and 714 coronavirus-related deaths, according to the union health ministry. After September 2020, this is the largest single-day increase in incidents. As the second wave of the pandemic begins to rage through the world, many states are enacting legislation to monitor the virus's dissemination.

On Friday, Maharashtra registered 47,827 new cases. With the rise in Covid-19 incidents, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray said on Friday that the state would be subjected to new controls, possibly including a lockout, if the situation continues.
